Inside Fort Darling

Two Columbiad guns overlook the James River in Fort Darling, a Confederate battery hastily constructed in May, 1862, to protect Richmond from naval attack. Union forces failed to capture Fort Darling in the battle of Drewry's Bluff, in 1864.
