Declaration of War
The main issue that caused the war was English interference with American shipping. America was ill-equipped to go to war, although she managed to hold her own. After two years of war, with no decisive gains made on either side, peace negotiations were begun. Details were worked into the Treaty of Ghent, which was signed at Ghent, Belgium, on December 24, 1814.
