Tad Lincoln, at Age Eight

This photograph of Tad (Thomas) at age 8 shows a scar running from his upper lip to his nose, possibly marking a harelip which, along with a partially cleft palate, had made his speech difficult to understand. The scar gradually faded as he grew older.
