Edgar Allen Poe

The celebrated poet and writer, Poe was the perpetrator of the Balloon Hoax, a false news story about a trans-Atlantic balloon flight. New York City was the hub of duplicity of this kind when P. T. Barnum arrived there in the mid 1830s.
