The First Signing of the Nineteenth Amendment
The Nineteenth Amendment to the Constitution was approved by Congress in 1919. Speaker of the House Frederick Huntington Gillett is flanked by key women supporters of the amendment, as well as House and Senate leaders. One year later, after the final state ratified it, the amendment was adopted.
