James Wilson (1742-1798)
James Wilson was an American patriot and jurist who was born in Scotland and came to America in 1765. He was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, a delegate to the Continental Congress, a member of the Constitutional Convention, an associate justice of the first Supreme Court, and a leading advocate of the principle, fundamental to democratic government, that sovereignty resides with the people.
