George Armstrong Custer (1839-1876)
Custer was the youngest general in the Union army, being promoted to Major General in 1865. He served in the cavalry fighting Native Americans after the war and is probably remembered most for Little Big Horn, where he and his troops were defeated by the Sioux in 1876. Custer graduated last in the West Point class of 1861.
