Elisha Kent Kane (1820-1857)

Kane was a physician seeking adventure after medical school, so he entered naval service and before he was thirty he had seen many parts of the world and had served in the Mexican War. He was the senior medical officer on the first Grinnell expedition and he organized and led the second expedition to the arctic region. He wrote narratives of both of these expeditions.
