Charles Eliot Norton (1827-1908)
He was an American scholar and professor of the history of art at Harvard University from 1875 to 1898. He edited, with James Russell Lowell, the North American Review and was a founder of the Nation. Of his several scholarly works, the most notable were his Italian studies and his prose translation of Dante. He also helped to found night schools for workingmen around Boston.
