Morrison Remick Waite (1816-1888)
Morrison Remick Waite was an American jurist who served as the seventh chief justice of the United States Supreme Court. It was Waites task as chief justice to help interpret the amendments to the Constitution that were adopted after the Civil War. His interpretation of the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment was long influential.
