George Henry Chapman (1832-1882)
George Henry Chapman was a Navy midshipman during the Mexican War. He also edited and published the Indiana Republican from 1854-55. He served as a clerk in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1860, but resigned when he was commissioned major of the 3rd Indiana Cavalry. Chapman was later promoted to Colonel, Brigadier General, and Brevet Major General, U.S. Volunteers.
