DeVolson Wood (1832-1897)
DeVolson Wood was an American civil engineer, educator, and author. He designed an ore dock in 1866 and invented an air compressor and a steam rock drill. Wood taught at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey, from 1872-97. He was the author of works on mechanics, bridge construction, and mathematics.
