Kate Chase Sprague (1840-1899)
Kate Chase was the daughter of the secretary of the treasury Salmon P. Chase. She became a famous socialite and political hostess. She married and eventually divorced the wealthy Senator William Sprague of Rhode Island and had a love affair with New York Senator Roscoe Conkling.
