Mary A. Bickerdyke (1817-1901), "Mother Bickerdyke"

One of the most capable and beloved women who served the needs of the sick and wounded during the American Civil War, Bickerdyke worked as a pension attorney after the war, helping nurses and veterans secure pensions.
