George Wesley Atkinson (1845-1925)

Atkinson was an American author, jurist and politician. In 1896, he was elected the first Republican governor of West Virginia in a quarter century. As governor he was vigorous and constructive, promoting better public schools, permanent roads, reforms in state election laws, the right of labor to organize, and encouraging immigration.
