George M. Dallas (1792-1864)

George Mifflin Dallas was the vice president under James Polk (1845-1849). Prior to that he was mayor of Philadelphia (1828-1829), U.S. senator from Pennsylvania (1831-1833), attorney general of Pennsylvania (1833-1835), and U.S. minister to Russia (1837-1839). Dallas was also the U.S. minister to Great Britain (1856-1861). The city of Dallas, Texas, was named after him.
