William Dennison (1815-1882)

William Dennison was governor of Ohio at the beginning of the Civil War, but was not renominated. Dennison was the chairman of the Republican National Convention in 1864 and was appointed postmaster general by Lincoln, which office he held until 1866, when he resigned on account of dissatisfaction with President Johnson.
