Solomon Foot was a congressman and U.S. senator from Vermont. Foot served as a Whig in Congress from 1843 until 1847. He joined the Republican party after the disintegration of the Whigs, serving as a senator from 1850 until his death in 1866. At the time of his death he was the senior member of the senate in continuous service.
