Ulysses S. Grant (1822-1885)
Ulysses S. Grant was the 18th president of the United States. During the Civil War he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general in the Union army, a rank no one since George Washington had held. Grant was twice elected as a Republican to the Presidency.
