John Augustus Griswold (1818-1872)
John Augustus Griswold was a congressman from New York. Griswold was an ardent supporter of the Union who assisted in the formation of several regiments including the 21st New York that was known as the Griswold Light Cavalry. His company produced the iron for the Monitor and the other ironclad Union ships of the Civil War.
