Andrew Jackson Hamilton (1815-1875)

Andrew Jackson Hamilton was a congressman, the governor of Texas, and a justice of the supreme court of Texas. In November 1862 he was appointed brigadier general of volunteers in the Union Army. Hamilton opposed secession as a congressman before the Civil War and was regarded as a traitor to his state at the outbreak of the Civil War, being forced to escape through Mexico to Washington where Lincoln appointed him provisional governor.
