Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826)
Thomas Jefferson was the 3rd President of the United States. Jefferson was the author of the Declaration of Independence, the secretary of state under Washington, and vice president under Adams. The Louisiana Purchase was the great achievement of his presidency, doubling the size of the country. This is a photograph of a painting of Jefferson in his fur collar by Rembrandt Peale that was done in the middle of his presidency in 1805.
