Martin Kalbfleisch (1804-1873)
Martin Kalbfleisch was an alderman from 1855-61 and the mayor of Brooklyn from 1862-64 and again from 1866-71. Kalbfleisch was a Democratic congressman from 1863 to 1865. He was born in Flushing, Holland. Kalbfleisch was instrumental in establishing public schools in Brooklyn.
