Robert C. Ogden (1836-1913)
Robert Curtis Ogden was a successful Northern merchant in the clothing and retail trade. He became interested in the cause of public education in the South during Reconstruction and joined the Hampton Institute as a trustee. He headed the Southern Board of Education and worked for increased school taxes and higher education standards in both white and African-American schools. Ogden was a trustee of the Tuskegee Institute and a director of the Union Theological Seminary.
