Hiram Price (1814-1901)
Price was a banker and a U.S. congressman. He helped found the State Bank of Iowa and the First National Bank of Davenport. Powell served as the U.S. Representative from Iowa from 1863 until 1869 and again from 1877 until 1881. As the U.S. Superintendent of Indian Affairs (1881-85), he promoted a reform policy that encouraged Native Americans to become farmers and citizens and backed their treaty rights to control their land.
