Henry M. Rector (1816-1899)
Henry Massey Rector was a lawyer and a Democratic politician from Arkansas. He was active in territorial and state politics and was elected as governor in 1860. As the governor during the beginning of the Civil War, Rector presided over the Arkansas' secession and tried to deal with the wartime problems of inflation, profiteering and military failures. He lost a special election in 1862 and spent the rest of the war as a private in the Arkansas' Reserve Corps. After the war, he returned to his family's farming and land operations.
