Tad Lincoln in Uniform with Sword

Tad Lincoln is shown here in a Union army uniform with a sword. Thomas Lincoln was born on April 4, 1853, the fourth son of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln. He was named after his paternal grandfather, but was nicknamed "Tadpole" or Tad for short. He was often found by his father's side while Lincoln attended to presidential matters. Tad died at age eighteen on July 15, 1871, presumably from tuberculosis.
