Jacob Henry Schiff (1847-1920)
Jacob H. Schiff was a banker, humanitarian and philanthropist who emigrated to the United States from Germany in 1865. His financial career concentrated on financing the railroad industry. His firm Kuhn, Loeb & Company became one of the leading investment banking firms in the United States by the turn of the century. Schiff worked to combat persecution of Eastern European Jews, particularly in Russia and Romania, and aided in their emigration to this country.
