This portrait of Henry Clay at age forty-one was painted by Matthew Harris Jouett (1788-1827) of Lexington, Kentucky. This is one of three portraits Jouett painted of Clay. Henry Clay (1777-1852) was an American statesman known as "The Great Compromiser." The print is from "McClure's Magazine."
