The U.S. Mint, New Orleans
This etching by E. J. Meeker shows the U.S. Mint in New Orleans, where David Glasgow Farragut ordered the U.S. flag to be raised. William B. Mumford, a North Carolinian and resident of New Orleans, was hung for treason after hauling down the flag, which was torn to pieces by an angry mob and thrown at Union officers.
