Mary E. Walker, M.D. (1832-1919)
Dr. Mary Edwards Walker was a physician and woman's rights activist, the only woman physician to serve in the Union Army, and the only woman from the Civil War to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor. Here she wears her medal on a conventional female dress, although she usually wore men's clothing during the war.
