Joseph Walker (1798-1876)
Joseph Reddeford Walker was a renowned mountaineer, explorer, expedition leader, and fur trapper. Walker served as guide to Captain Bonneville's expedition to the Rocky Mountains in 1832. He is credited with discovering Yosemite Valley in 1833; consequently, the pass, lake, and river bear his name.
