Edwin Lamson Stanton (1842-1877)
Edwin Lamson Stanton was the son of Edwin McMasters Stanton, Lincoln's secretary of war. Edwin graduated from Kenyon College in 1863. President Grant appointed him secretary of the District of Columbia in 1871 and in 1874 he was appointed district attorney of Washington, DC. He also served briefly as governor of the District of Columbia under the territorial government that existed there between 1871 and 1874.
