Mary Louise Booth (1831-1889)
A writer and magazine editor, Booth wrote "History of the City of New York" (1859) and books that were sympathetic to the Union cause, which won praise from Abraham Lincoln. Booth fought for abolition as well as women's rights. In 1867 Booth was named editor of the Harper Brothers' new family and fashion magazine, "Harper's Bazar."
