John Palmer Usher (1816-1889)

John Palmer Usher was the secretary of the interior under President Abraham Lincoln. Usher resigned in 1865 and became a lawyer for the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1872, he moved to Lawrence, Kansas, where he would serve one term as mayor.
