Fanny Burney (1752-1840)
Frances Burney was an English novelist, playwright and diarist. Her novels, "Evelina," "Cecilia," "Camilla," and "The Wanderer" depicted eighteenth century English society and the role of women. Her work is considered a forerunner in the development of the English novel. This painting by Edward Francesco Burney appeared in the "New York Times" on April 4, 1958.
