Elisha Whittlesey (1783-1863)
Elisha Whittlesey was a U.S. congressman from Ohio, serving from 1823-38. He served as a military and private secretary to General William Henry Harrison and as a brigade major in the Army of the Northwest during the War of 1812. Whittlesey was appointed by President Taylor as First Comptroller of the Treasury and served from 1849-57 and again from 1861 until his death.
