George William Childs (1829-1894)

George William Childs was a bookseller and the publisher of the Philadelphia Public Ledger. Childs insisted on maintaining a high level of accuracy and morality and refused to print scandal or sensation in his newspaper. Childs generously gave considerable time and money to many important civic projects in Philadelphia.
