Robert Walter Weir (1803-1889)
Robert Walter Weir was one of America's most important painters of historical subjects. His most significant work was his large historical mural, "Embarkation of the Pilgrims at Delft Holland, July 22nd, 1620," installed in the U.S. Capitol rotunda. Weir was a professor of art at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point for forty-two years.
