General James Gilpatrick Blunt (1826-1881)
James Gilpatrick Blunt was an ardent abolitionist leader in Kansas who assisted John Brown in helping slaves reach Canada. Blunt was a major general of volunteers in the West during the Civil War. He graduated from Starling Medical College in 1849 and after the Civil War he worked in Washington, DC, at a government hospital for the insane.
