Alexander Stephens (1812-1883)
Here is Alexander Hamilton Stephens, the future Confederate vice president, in a photograph taken at Brady's National Photographic Art Gallery in Washington, DC. It was taken c. 1843 around the time Stephens was first elected to Congress. After the Civil War, Stephens served in Congress again (1873-82) and was then elected governor of Georgia.
