Robert Christie Buchanan (1811-1878)
Robert Christie Buchanan, the nephew of John Quincy Adams, graduated from West Point in 1830 and fought in the Black Hawk, Seminole, and Mexican wars. Buchanan was brevetted Major General, U.S. Volunteers, for his service during the Civil War. He was called "old Buck" by his soldiers. The general commanded the Department of Louisiana during Reconstruction.
