Napoleon Bonaparte Buford (1807-1883)
Napoleon Bonaparte Buford graduated 6th in the West Point class of 1827 and then served eight years in the artillery and was an assistant professor of natural and experimental philosophy at West Point. At the outbreak of the Civil War he was a Colonel of the 27th Illinois and was brevetted Major General, U.S. Volunteers for his war service. He was the half-brother of General John Buford.
