Cyrus Bussey (1833-1915)
Cyrus Bussey was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1860 that nominated Stephen Douglas for President. At the outbreak of the Civil War he invaded Missouri with a force of Iowa militia and was successful in keeping the state in the Union. He was soon appointed colonel of the 3rd Iowa Cavalry and was brevetted Major General, U.S. Volunteers. Bussey was assistant secretary of the interior from 1889-93.
