Augustus Louis Chetlain (1824-1914)
Augustus Louis Chetlain was a Union soldier who served in the 12th Illinois as Captain, Lieutenant Colonel, and Colonel. He was also promoted to Brigadier General and Brevet Major General, U.S. Volunteers. After the war he was U.S. Consul at Brussels from 1869-72, director of the Chicago Stock Exchange, and author of Recollections, which tells of his acquaintances with the eminent men of his time.
