Cyrus Ballou Comstock (1831-1910)
Cyrus Ballou Comstock graduated 1st in the West Point class of 1855. Comstock became a 2nd Lieutenant in the corps of engineers and was engaged in building forts. He was also an assistant professor of natural and experimental philosophy at West Point. During the Civil War he was a Chief engineer and senior aide-de-camp to General Grant. He was brevetted Brigadier and Major General. He was elected a member of the National academy of sciences in 1884.
