Philip St. George Cooke (1809-1895)

Philip St. George Cooke graduated from West Point in 1827, served in the Mexican War, and on the Utah expedition he was in command of cavalry. Cooke was a brigadier general in command of regular army cavalry in Washington at the outset of the Civil War. He later served on court-martial duty and was in command of the army's recruiting service. He was brevetted major general.
