United States Slave Trade, 1830

This abolitionist engraving shows slaves in the foreground with the U.S. Capitol building looming in the background with an American flag flying from the dome. The copper plate from which the picture was engraved was found many years ago by workmen engaged in removing the ruins of Anti-Slavery Hall, in Philadelphia, which was burned by a mob in 1838.
