Woodrow and Edith Wilson
Woodrow and Edith Wilson are shown here in a carriage with a bouquet of flowers. Woodrow Wilson's first wife, Ellen, died in 1914. Her death combined with the eruption of World War I in Europe sank Wilson into a deep depression, but in the spring of 1915 Wilson met Edith Galt, a Washington widow. They were married later that same year. "She seemed to come into my life . . . like a special gift from Heaven, " Wilson wrote.
