Grenville Mellen Dodge (1831-1916)
Grenville Mellen Dodge was a Union soldier who served as Colonel of the 4th Iowa and was subsequently promoted to brigadier and major general of volunteers. He graduated from Norwich University where he studied engineering, and then he worked in Iowa building railroads. After the war, he was elected to the U.S. Congress for one term, but declined renomination and devoted himself to making a fortune in the railroad business.
